A man has been charged with murder after a mother-of-two was found dead in her home in Brisbane's north.

Carra Luke, 48, was found unconscious in her bedroom on Osprey Place in Taigum by family members yesterday morning, just after midnight.

She had suffered "significant" stab wounds and was declared dead at the scene.

Police have charged a 52-year-old man known to the woman with one count of murder and one count of entering a dwelling with intent.

He will appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court tomorrow.

"Investigators would like to thank members of the public for providing information that greatly supported the investigation," Queensland Police said in a statement.

Multiple crime scenes were set up across Brisbane after Luke was found dead.

Following investigations, police visited a home on Hackman Street in McDowall at 1.10am and arrested the charged man.

"The linkage between the two addresses and the parties involved is part of the investigation process," Acting Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman said.

Forensic officers spent the day scouring the McDowall home for evidence.

9News understands the man had been living there with his parents and is known to Luke.

"We're investigating all angles, including domestic violence," Wildman said.

The SES was called in to help search a nearby aged care facility late this afternoon, which has now been declared a third crime scene.

The 52-year-old man remains in custody at the Pine Rivers Watchhouse.

Luke has been described by those who knew her as a devoted mother, a respected nurse and a generous neighbour.

"Everyone on the street is devastated by the news morning," neighbour Jackson Hughesman said.9News understands the man had been living there with his parents and is known to Luke.

"Carra was a kind and loving person who would go to extremes for anyone she met.

"We will miss her chats, her generosity and kindness. The family is in our thoughts during this hard time."

Her colleagues at the Nundah Doctor Surgery said "Carra has been with us for 20 years and was the heart and soul of the practice".

Police urged the public, specifically Taigum residents on Handford Road, Beams Road, Roghan Road and Church Road, to check CCTV footage between 10pm yesterday and 1am today.
