Woman fighting for life after alleged hit and run on Sunshine Coast

A woman is fighting for life, and a man is in custody, after an alleged hit-and-run on the Sunshine Coast.

Police said a Toyota Yaris ploughed into eight pedestrians near the intersection of Aerodrome Road and Fourth Avenue in Maroochydore late last night.

The driver of the Yaris, a 38-year-old man, allegedly fled the scene in the car after the crash, but was located a short time later by police at a nearby house.

He was taken into custody.

No charges have been laid.

One of the pedestrians, a 23-year-old woman from NSW, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition.

Three other pedestrians, two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Police are investigating the crash and urge anyone with information to contact police.
