The 31-year-old was charged overnight after handing himself in to police. He now faces up to a decade behind bars.
Kenny Thongteeka, 31, was seen walking from jail after being granted bail after being accused of killing a Campbelltown grandfather and driving away in Gregory Hills.

When asked if he had anything to say to the family, he replied, "I'm very sorry".
Thongteeka told 9News he "was shocked" after the incident, when asked why he left the scene.
"I'm sorry, I just wanna say I'm sorry," he added.
The Leppington father-of-two handed himself into Narellan police station at 10.20pm yesterday, 24 hours after he allegedly sideswiped Daniel Spicer.
Happier memories of the 67-year-old victim were shared to Facebook by his devastated family.
Spicer was struck in front of his wife and children as he was tying a table to the roof of his car in Gregory Hills.
The court heard Thongteeka is a chef and a Coles warehouse employee with no criminal history.
His wife and parents supported him today.
Police prosecutors opposed Thongteeka's release, labelling the alleged hit-and-run as "abhorrent behaviour".

They referenced evidence they claim showed the alleged offender stopping and checking the damage to his SUV following the crash.
Thongteeka's lawyer said he planned to plead guilty and conceded a full-time prison sentence could be a possibility.
He'll be back in Campbelltown court on September 10.
