History will tell you that a government willingly ceded power rarely gives that power back. It will find reason after reason (or perhaps variant after variant) to maintain and enhance that power at the cost of individual liberty. Far too many Americans have shown the authoritarian Left that they are more than ready to sacrifice freedom for security and in so doing that they deserve neither.

What Will The Next Public Health Crisis Be? Freedom

Perhaps the most disappointing turn of events to come from the Covid-19 pandemic is the unquestioning willingness of allegedly free people to throw their civil liberties to the four winds for the perception of safety.

Vast swaths of America willingly rolled over for lockdowns, mandates, and forced vaccination; as long as they could continue to watch Netflix. A single Tweet captured some very ugly truths about what infringements on freedom the alleged heirs to the Constitution were willing to accept for the illusion of safety from a virus with a 99+% survival rate.

Even more disquieting is how many of those same people became willing enforcers of government mandates, more than happy to rat out fellow citizens who questioned or refused to comply with those lockdowns and mandates or those who dared to question the established narrative. With the enthusiastic assistance of the corporate media and big tech, phone apps were rolled out that conveniently allowed the terminally frightened to report fellow citizens to the Health Department Stasi, or even to their local police, all anonymously. America in many ways came to resemble Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago.

The fascists on the Left cheered all of this, of course. Since World War II, the Left in this country has been looking for another cause whereby they could unite Americans in surrendering some or all of their civil liberties, to get that pesky freedom out of the way, to build the Leftist Utopia. With Covid-19, it appeared they’d found it.

Businesses and individuals were fined. Merchants were shut down. Police barred people from entering businesses that refused to comply. People’s livelihoods were eradicated without the due process of law, all at the whim of unelected bureaucrats. As I mentioned previously, the unvaccinated (those who chose to question the party orthodoxy) were and are being shunned and denied their basic freedoms to the cheering accolades of the virtue-signaling masses. All with government encouragement of course.

Most disturbing of all, we have Leftist totalitarians in Canada and Australia taking unvaccinated free citizens, rounding them up, and herding them into internment camps for isolation and reeducation. These people have committed no crimes. They have received no due process in most cases. They are simply ‘enemies’ according to the state. And once again, after years of government disinformation and scaremongering, far too many of the populace have chosen to be ‘good Germans’ and go along with the marginalization and/or incarceration of fellow citizens because “Hey, it’s not me. I followed the rules.” To which I’d add the codicil: It’s not you … yet.

Far too many Americans have shown the authoritarian Left that they are more than ready to sacrifice freedom for security and in so doing that they deserve neither. It is the safest of bets that the authoritarians are hungrily eyeing other “crises” to foment with the help of their propaganda arm the corporate media, to spook the herd into behaving as the authoritarians desire. With Covid-19, free citizens decided to play a very dangerous game of historical roulette that could very well end with them in chains at the whims of those in power.

Am I being alarmist? Let me answer your question with a question: What’s next? The authoritarians already know they can, with a campaign of disinformation and censorship, get large segments of the population to behave a certain way and to turn on each other. The CDC has already floated trial balloons about racism and gun violence being “public health emergencies,” the guise under which so many in government at all levels seized (and still in many cases hold) ‘emergency’ powers.

So I ask: What’s the next “public health” crisis in which you, your family, or your business might be declared ‘non-essential’? Just how much ground are you willing to give to remain ‘safe’ and in compliance? Ask yourself these questions in the context of history. Do not go gentle into that good night. Let your voice be heard. Be peaceful but direct and forceful as well. As Ronald Reagan said, if they won’t see the light, make them feel the heat. These people work for us, we are neither their vassals nor their subjects.
