The Recent Polling Statistic That Terrifies Democrats And Their Media
Joe Biden is just doing what Democrats do. He’s dealing with a scandal with his son Hunter, but that’s not what’s driving these polling numbers. Biden hates fossil fuels, so gas prices have skyrocketed. He spends money like a drunken sailor, so inflation is through the roof. He prefers a weak presence internationally, so he withdrew from Afghanistan which emboldened Russia to invade Ukraine. And he lies about everything.
American politics and the governments produced by it are generally considered to be driven by what happens in the so-called “center.” Conventional wisdom states that it is the highly coveted independent and undecided voters that determine electoral outcomes. Each party has its base, and to gain power they must try expanding that base and pulling voters from the center into their columns. But a poll released last week may put that philosophy on its ear with a seismic shift in opinion from a key demographic.
College-educated white liberals are arguably the most loyal group within the Democratic Party’s base, but others are critical as well, particularly those who make up their ‘intersectional coalition.’ Democrats seek to keep each of these other groups, – including black, Hispanic, and LBGTQ voters – in their base by feeding them the narrative of victimhood and then exploiting the ensuing resentment. Don’t support those mean old Republicans, they’ve oppressed you, and they don’t care about you like we do.
But as we’ve seen over the last few election cycles, the effectiveness of that approach by Democrats has been eroding and may have just run into a brick wall.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll released last Wednesday, a remarkable 54% of Hispanics disapprove of President Joe Biden’s job performance with only 32% approving. That puts Mr. Biden underwater by an incredible 22% with a demographic that has been reliably Democratic for decades. Furthermore, the poll shows that Hispanics’ approval is actually lower than that of the overall population which indicated a 36% approval rating.
If those numbers persist, they aren’t just bad for Democrats, they’re catastrophic. And they could alter the political landscape for years to come. And there are two aspects of this development that should be most disturbing to Democrats.
First, Joe Biden is just doing what Democrats do. Yes, he’s dealing with a scandal with his son Hunter, but that’s not what’s driving these polling numbers. Joe Biden has behaved like the quintessential Democrat.
Second, and perhaps most troubling for the Democratic establishment, is that this complete erosion in support is happening amongst the fastest-growing demographic in the country: Hispanics. Democrats have opposed border security, and have thereby jeopardized our national security, thinking that if they allow more illegal immigrants into the country through our southern border, they’ll vote Democrat and keep them in power. But now, all that pandering may have been for naught.
In 2012, Barack Obama won 71% of the Hispanic vote, in 2016, Hillary Clinton carried 66% of that demographic, and in 2020, only 61% of Hispanics voted for Biden. If last week’s poll is any indication, the 2024 election may completely reverse the Democrats’ fortunes with Hispanic voters. And if that’s the case, Democrats are in serious trouble.
