Moana Pasifika sealed the most unlikely of wins at home after the Queensland Reds made countless mistakes.

Reds left to rue costly cards in defeat to bottom-dwellers

The words of Queensland Reds coach Les Kiss pre-match ultimately came back to haunt him.

He spoke of little timeframes before half-time, after half-time, and just before the end of the game.

Indeed, it was the final act of the game that condemned the hopes of the Reds when they let Moana Pasifika slip through and score the game-winning try.

Ultimately, ill-discipline cost the Reds a chance to win. All told, it was 17-14 to Moana Pasifika.

"Incredibly frustrating," said Liam Wright on Stan Sport's coverage.Tate McDermott in the final moments of the Queensland Reds' loss to Moana Pasifika.

"A lot of errors and ill-discipline from us which is just hard to come back from.

"Moana played a quality game, they forced those errors out of us, made it tough, and capitalised on moments.

"As you said, I thought there was a lot of courage. We found our moments at the back end of the game and unfortunately ill-discipline is just rubbing out a few for us."

Tate McDermott's swinging arm cost the Reds a try that would have sealed victory, while Fraser McReight's send-off at the death caught them short in the final stanza.

"It was too up and down, wasn't it? We started the game, 20 minutes in we made six or seven errors," said Kiss.

"We controlled field position and we didn't convert. We've done that a couple of times this year and it's been costly - not in every game.

"It puts us on the back foot. We don't nail that pressure on when we should have.

"The second half, we gained a bit of momentum and a couple of incidents took the momentum away."

"That was pressure back on top of ourselves," he said.

"We entered the competition at this stage with the least penalties against us, no yellow cards, and suddenly ... when it rains, it pours.

"We've got to be better, we have to be better."

The Reds will face the Highlanders in round nine in Brisbane on April 19.
