'Hope for the best': Legend's fear for lacklustre Simmons

Legendary basketballer and six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen has expressed concern surrounding Australian player Ben Simmons' disinterest and lack of commitment to the game and his home country.

Simmons, who was born in Melbourne, has struggled to find form with the Brooklyn Nets, while also managing a plethora of injuries.

In previous years, he has shown no interest in representing Australia and recently has struggled with game time and consistency in the NBA.

"I don't know what's going on with that young man."

Simmons has signalled his intention to finally represent Australia, telling Nine's Sports Sunday he is "100 per cent committed" to joining the Boomers at Paris 2024.

Despite the promising words from Simmons, Pippen isn't entirely convinced.

"I think I should probably keep my opinion to myself and hope for the best for him."

As for team USA, Pippen is confident they'll be the ones who take home the gold over Australia come Paris 2024, which is just months away.

"I definitely feel that no one should look at what USA basketball has done over the last couple of years, when they're trying to qualify. We never send our best players over to do that," Pippen said.

"But they'll be fine. (This time around) we'll definitely be sending our best players to play for Olympic gold."
