'Get over yourself': Swans boss ripped for radical idea

Caroline Wilson has slammed suggestions from the Sydney Swans president that the AFL grand final should be revamped into a best-of-three game series.

It comes after Sydney president Andrew Pridham renewed calls for a best-of-three grand final series — arguing that the AFL is missing out on a $40 million revenue raiser by persisting with its current grand final arrangement.

Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire laughed off Pridham's suggestion on Nine's Eddie and Jimmy podcast.

Wilson has backed McGuire's comments, despite Sydney and GWS looking likely finals suitors, both undefeated to start their season.

"Get over yourself, the grand final is at the MCG," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified on Monday night. The AFL grand final will remain at the MCG until at least 2059.

"What a brilliant competition to have those two clubs (Swans and Giants) playing at the best stadium in the land."

Wilson also shut down suggestions that if the Swans and Giants were to qualify for the last Saturday in September, the travel would be more exhausting that the grand final itself.

Jimmy Bartel also agreed that multiple grand finals would dilute the spectacle.

"(The quality) would be absolutely trash."

The grand final is locked in at the MCG until the 2059 season, with COVID-19 grand finals in 2020 and 2021 extending the contract by two years.
