A 22-year-old French man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs inside hair products.

Australian Border Force officers in Sydney initially discovered a package allegedly containing hair products that concealed 550g of ketamine in June.

An investigation identified a 22-year-old male in Western Australia who used an alias in the Northern Territory to attempt to move the drugs.

The man was apprehended by Northern Territory Police last Friday when he was travelling between WA and the Northern Territory.

A search of his vehicle located LSD, a burner phone, three SIM cards and images of false identification allegedly used to facilitate importations.

He was charged with three counts of attempting to import a border-controlled substance, two counts of attempting to possess a border-controlled substance, and one count of possessing a dangerous drug in a commercial quantity.

The man faced Darwin Local Court yesterday, and was further remanded to appear in court on September 30.
