Woods comes good on Origin bet despite legal threat

Former NSW Blues prop Aaron Woods has come good on his bet to do a nudie run at Bondi Beach despite legal threats from the state premier.

Woods had a bet with Nine's Today host Karl Stefanovic - who is a proud Queenslander - ahead of State of Origin II in Perth on Wednesday night.

With the Maroons winning, Woods went on live TV on Friday morning to strip naked and run into the pre-dawn surf.

"There are more people appearing by the second," he laughed nervously as he stood on the beach in a robe.

"Thanks Karl."

Today sports presenter Danika Mason had the unfortunate position of standing on the beach as Woods ran into the water.

"I hope I get a Logie for this," Mason said.

A while later Woods appeared on Today again, this time fully clothed.

"I'm feeling good, it was good fun," Woods said.

"It was a long run, it was like 'when is this water going to get closer'."

Woods made good on the bet despite NSW premier Chris Minns warning the act was illegal.

During a segment on Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Cat and Woodsy, the former NRL player asked if Minns wanted to join him in the nudie run.

"No - it's highly illegal," came the blunt reply.

"Why is this news to you guys? It's been illegal forever," Minns said with tongue in cheek.

Former Sharks player Beau Ryan said Woods was "genuinely shocked" when they told him nudie runs were illegal when the idea was originally floated.

"He goes, 'What's illegal?' I go; 'You can't be nude in public'. And he's like, 'But at the beach!' I said; 'it's still public. It's ... you could get arrested'."

The premier pointed out there are several nude beaches in Sydney where Woods could complete his bet without fear of a public arrest and a trip to the slammer.

Woods could also cop a fine over the act.

Minns himself has a series-long bet with his Queensland counterpart David Crisafulli, in which the loser will appear in an advertising campaign for the other state.
