P-plater charged after pregnant woman dies following crash in Sydney's north-west

A provisional driver has been charged after a pregnant woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Sydney's north-west overnight.
The pedestrian was struck on George Street in Hornsby around 8pm last night.
Paramedics treated the 33-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, at the scene before she was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical and unstable condition.

The woman and her baby could not be saved.
The woman was walking along the footpath crossing at the entrance of a car park with other pedestrians.
A Kia Carnival stopped to let the pedestrians cross, but a white BMW driven by a P-plater slammed into the back of it.
The Kia Carnival then struck the 33-year-old woman.
The force pushed the woman to the ground.
The 19-year-old male driver of the white BMW and a 48-year-old male driver of a silver Kia Carnival station wagon were uninjured.
Both drivers were taken to Hornsby Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene was established shortly after.
About 12.45am today, the 19-year-old BMW driver was arrested at a home on Millewa Avenue in Wahroonga.
He was taken to Hornsby Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death) and cause loss of foetus – death of pregnant woman.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court today.
