'High-level violence': Man stabbed to death outside Sydney home

A homicide investigation is under way after a man was found with stab wounds outside a home in Sydney's west.

The man in his 20s was found in the driveway of a home on Driftway Drive in Pemulwuy about 10.45pm yesterday.

Detective Superintendent Simon Glasser said the man was attacked outside the property, suffering several stab wounds.

"He was attacked outside the premises and attempted to get away, however, he succumbed to his injuries," Glasser said.

"All we know at this point is he was stabbed a number of times...this is serious high-level violence that we can't tolerate."

9News understands the man was pulled from a car and attacked.

Glasser said the man was known to police, but was not a well-known crime figure.

He also said police had received a description of two men wearing dark clothing running from the scene.

Police said they had "no idea" why he was targeted while addressing media this morning.
