An 86-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to strangle a woman in Ipswich yesterday.

An 86-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to strangle a woman in Ipswich yesterday.

Police say the man, from Bracken Ridge in north Brisbane, tried to strangle a 33-year-old woman who is known to him at an address in Eastern Heights at 6.30pm.

A neighbour heard a disturbance at the home and called police, who arrested the man at the scene.

He has been charged with attempted murder (domestic violence) and is due to appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court today.

The woman, from Eastern Heights, suffered no visible injuries.
