'Confused' Tigers players to follow Benji to exit if axe drops

Benji Marshall is the next Wests Tiger in the crosshairs of the Holman Barnes Group that has cut a swathe through the club.

Insiders have told Wide World of Sports that the group has already secretly nominated a potential replacement for Marshall - former Eels coach Brad Arthur.

Benji "has the full support of the board" - but will need to win plenty of games next season to retain his post.

The Holman Barnes Group is conducting a purge of the club, with chairman and former NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell, three other independent directors and CEO Shane Richardson all moving on in the past week.

Arthur is coaching Leeds in England and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to coach in the NRL again - most probably in 2027.SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA - MARCH 09: Eels coach, Brad Arthur looks on at full-time during the round one NRL match between Parramatta Eels and Canterbury Bulldogs at CommBank Stadium, on March 09, 2024, in Sydney, Australia. A source close to the former Eels coach cryptically told WWOS this week: "He will not be short of options."

Marshall is the last remaining high-profile off-field figure at the club following mass changes in recent seasons that have come to a head over the past week.

He lifted the Tigers off the bottom of the ladder last season to 13th spot and will need to at least equal that feat to retain his job for 2027.

Meanwhile, the possible loss of Marshall could trigger several of the Tigers' star players to leave the club.

"The Tigers need to think very carefully about their next move," a player manager with several talented players at the club told Wide World of Sports.Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall speaks to the media following the round 17 NRL match between Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium, on June 30, 2024, in Sydney, Australia. "The players are already confused and concerned by all the changes in personnel that have been going on.

"Benji is a players' coach and the guys are very close to him.

"If he goes, players will feel less inclined to stay."

'Extremely unpopular' chief could cause exodus

Which chief executive is extremely unpopular with several of his club's most talented players, as well as their manager?

So much so that if he remains in the job, the players and the manager will look to get out of the club at some stage in the near future.

It's a volatile situation at a club that has had it's fair share of drama in recent times.

Plenty of rival clubs - aware of the situation - are monitoring events with plenty of interest.

Rabbitohs poach teen Kiwi young gun

The Warriors keep finding they can't hang onto all the good young talent in New Zealand - and have lost another kid who could be anything.

Souths have signed a giant forward who was a standout for the Warriors in the SG Ball team last year - Te Paeroa Wi Neera.

A lanky 17-year-old second-rower from Hamilton with promising ball skills, Paeroa Wi Neera has made several junior rep teams in Auckland but the Rabbitohs snuck under the Warriors' guard to sign him for the next couple of years.

Son of a gun quits Super League, eyeing NRL

The son of former Tigers, Bears, Cowboys and Eels forward Glenn Morrison has quit English club Huddersfield Giants to try to break into the NRL with the Knights.

A strapping 20-year-old winger, Beau Morrison grew up in England where his dad finished his 300-plus game career with Bradford and Wakefield.

Beau will start his Aussie journey in the Knights' Flegg side next season and strive to earn a development contract over the next couple of years.

Huddersfield has become a happy hunting ground for the Knights in recent seasons - both Dom Young and Will Pryce also learned their craft there before being snapped up by Newcastle.
