'Biggest deal in AFL history' emerges for Eagles star

Harley Reid could be set to receive "the biggest deal in AFL history" as crunch time looms on a contract decision.

Reid, who was taken at No.1 in the 2023 draft, is contracted until the end of 2026 at the West Coast Eagles and has become a man in demand.

AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reported on Nine's Footy Classified that the Eagles have had a contract offer on the table since April for the 20-year-old.

He said his management had responded with a counter-offer, which could tip the competition on its head.

"[It's] a mammoth offer that would be a two-year extension plus an extension on top of that of another nine years so an 11-year arrangement," Twomey said.

"This is ground-breaking in what it would mean for the West Coast Eagles and Harley Reid ... it would be the biggest deal in AFL history."

It would mean Reid would be signed to West Coast until 2037 but the Eagles were yet to meet that demand.

That means other clubs are still looking at Reid, with Sam Mitchell's Hawks side one of the contenders.

"Hawthorn are near on obsessed with Harley Reid and getting him to the club, they want him badly," Twomey said.

"They are willing to go to eight-to-10 years at $1.7 million or $1.8 million to get him across the line."

Reid has played 38 games for the Eagles since debuting in 2024.

If the Eagles and Reid agreed to the deal tabled by his management it would mimic the one offered to Port Adelaide's Miles Bergman.

Bergman signed a two-year deal and can sign for an extra seven years if he chooses.
